Feel fuller for longer...

Happy New Year all!

I've been neglecting this little space on the internet recently for reasons I won't go into but promise to put in some much needed time and effort to get things back up to scratch! For now however, I want to share with you a little tip, trick and foodie hack to naturally boost your protein intake in the morning.

Most people eat cereal, porridge or toast for breakfast (if they eat it at all!) which means you start the day with a hefty dose of carbs, usually with extra carbs on top in the form of fruit, sugar, honey or jam. Now, I'm not adverse to carbohydrates - you can read up on their benefits here - but most often these breakfasts don't leave you full for long meaning you'll be seeking your next meal or raiding the snack cupboard...

Adding some protein and a portion of healthy fats will help keep you fuller for longer as these slow down the rate of digestion and regulate the levels of glucose and insulin in your body.

So, topping your toast with some poached eggs is a great idea!

Or...try my new obsession: adding egg whites to your regular porridge recipe! Sounds strange but egg whites are tasteless; they create a super fluffy, almost cake-like texture to your porridge and just 80g (the equivalent of 2 egg whites) adds around 9g protein. When combined with the milk and oats in your bowl you can be averaging about 20g of protein* which will keep the belly rumbling at bay!

* Add a tbsp peanut butter and you'll rack up another 5/6g of protein plus get in some healthy unsaturated fats!
